PRESQUE ISLE — Officials with the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce are busy preparing for this year’s recognition dinner, with applications still being accepted for honorees.

“The deadline for submitting nominee names for the 2010 awards is Friday, Jan. 21. Categories include: Lifetime Achievement, Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director, PIACC.

The Lifetime Achievement and Citizen of the Year awards are sponsored by the PIACC, the Presque Isle Elks, Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recipient is “an outstanding individual recognized for their impact on the lives of Presque Isle area citizens — a special individual who makes the Presque Isle area a better place to live,” explained Fowler.

Fowler described the Citizen of the Year Award recipient as “an outstanding individual recognized for their impact on the lives of Presque Isle area citizens — a special individual who shows dedication and spirit beyond what is considered regular duty.”

Nominees for Business of the Year are community-minded organizations that work to promote economic growth while providing a pleasant atmosphere for customers and employees.

Last year’s award recipients included Citizen of the Year Kim Smith, Lifetime Achievement honoree John Graves and Business of the Year went to the Braden Theatre, owned by Chris and Arlen Dow. Past honorees have included Dick Graves, Dan Ladner, Audrey Thibodeau and retired Judge David Griffiths.

Applications are available at all financial institutions in Presque Isle, local service clubs and at the PIACC located on the Houlton Road.

This year the annual dinner is slated for Thursday, Feb. 24.

“We’re still working out the details and will announce the location at a later date,” said Fowler.
