HOULTON — It may have taken a few days longer than normal, but Houlton Regional Hospital finally has its first baby of 2011.
Brady Allen Bailey became the first baby born at HRH in 2011 at 7:31 a.m. Monday morning. The second child of Douglas Bailey and Lauren Cote of Houlton, Brady weighed in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces. The couple also have a 13-month old daughter, Sophie, who ironically was also a holiday baby as she was born on Thanksgiving Day.
Cote said she did not wake up Monday morning thinking she would deliver her baby, as her due date was not until Jan. 20. But when she began having contractions she knew it was time to head to the hospital. Another thing they did not expect was to be the hospital’s first baby of 2011.
“We had no idea,” Cote said.
“It had been 10 days, so we figured there must have been a baby born before ours,” Bailey added.
The obstetrics staff at the hospital presented the couple with a basket of items for having the first baby of 2011 at HRH. The nurses donated all items in the basket, which featured books, bibs, blankets and other items for the newborn.
