UPSET VICTORY — Lance Jandreau of the Caribou Vikings holds down the shoulders of Calais’s Scott Carpenter during Saturday’s home match. Jandreau scored a second-round pin over the two-time defending Class C state champion.
Caribou coach Todd Albert said the team’s ability to fill all 14 weight divisions has been the major factor in the impressive won-loss mark.
“The team depth is something we haven’t had in the past years,” Albert explained. “We have 25 wrestlers on the roster and we try to get as many matches as we can. Unfortunately, sometimes the other teams don’t match up as well and we collect some forfeits.”
The Vikings hosted three other schools for a meet on Saturday, and the highlight was Lance Jandreau’s pin of two-time Class C state champion Scott Carpenter with four seconds left in the second period of their 140-lb. division match.
“Hopefully that will be a confidence boost for [Jandreau] going forward,” Albert said.
