June Watson of Caribou, recently fell in love with 4-month-old, Bailey who is loaded with personality and has an independent mind of his own which is sure to liven-up the Watson household. Bailey’s older sister, Sweetie Pie, is still available for adoption at the HHPR, a Maine licensed animal shelter and a 501c3 charitable organization. Toby’s Treasure’s Store a dream idea of raising funds for the rescue has had to close for a variety of reasons of shortage of volunteers, economic shortfall and health issues of a valued volunteer. We are very dependent and grateful for everyone’s help through the returnable bottles and collection jars in area businesses. HHPR will host an “Be My Cuddly Valentine” Kitten/Cat Adoption Fair at the Tractor Supply Store in Presque Isle on Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Feb.13, from 1 to 4 p.m. During the event there will be a White Elephant Sale for the future cattery home. There will also be a cash 50/50 drawing, entertainment and treats for the family pets. Applications will be taken on Saturday from noon to 3 for low-income families who need financial help with spaying/neutering their dogs or cats. HHPR is delighted with the huge response to our $1.00 for $1,000 challenge. The $1 challenge was created to ease the loss of the $1,000 prize money lost in the animal rescue challenge. We cannot thank you enough for all the $1 bills and more that appear in our mailbox each day. We reached our $1,000 goal for the new building account which currently is at $2,400 toward our goal of $85,000. “We know we need a permanent home,” stated Norma Milton, “and beginning work toward that goal now will protect our animals in the long term.”
