MONTICELLO, HOULTON, and EAGLE LAKE – Margaret Ellanora Martin, R.N., 89, died January 10, 2011 in Houlton. She was born April 9, 1921 in Naughton Glen, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Elias and Martha (Solmanson) Polson.
Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s of the Visitation, Houlton. She earned her R.N. degree from Edmonton General Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. While in training she met and fell in love with a handsome American soldier. She followed him to Eagle Lake where they married and began their life together. They raised their family in Houlton, where Margaret nursed at Madigan Hospital and the Aroostook Hospital until 1974. Margaret and Mike relocated to Eagle Lake and she worked at Northern Maine Nursing Home until her retirement. In 2000, she moved to Monticello with her son and daughter-in-law. She will be missed greatly by her family and all others who were lucky enough to have known her.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Jeffrey M. and Judy of Bloomfield, NY, Deborah M. Rossignol and Philip of Roswell, GA, and Michael J. and Jan of Monticello; 6 grandchildren, Christopher M. Martin of Bangor, Margaret A. Blevins of Mars Hill, Daniel J. Martin of Chandler, AZ, Elizabeth A. Krowl of Pittsford, NY, Katherine A. Martin of Platte City, Missouri, Janis Jensen of Johns Creek, GA; her precious great-grandchildren, Katie and Eric Krowl, Kagen Jensen, Sirena St. Onge, Gabrielle Martin, Michaela and Olivia Pelletier; her siblings, Betty Crowthers of Victoria B.C., Canada, Vi Anderburg of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, John Polson of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; brothers-in-law, John L. Martin, Paul and Rita Martin all of Eagle Lake; sister-in-law, Nanette and Rudolph Martin of Van Buren; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael in June 1993.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Abouleish and the Houlton Regional Hospital Progressive Care staff for their dedication and care. They were not just Margaret’s caregivers but also friends.
Friends may call 9-11a.m. on Friday, January 14 at St. Mary’s of the Vistiation, Houlton where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Spring Interment will be in the Eagle Lake Cemetery.
