The second annual Presque Isle/Houlton Open Chess Tournament will be held Jan. 22-23.
Rounds one and two will be played in Presque Isle at the Turner Memorial Library on 39 Second Street, with rounds three and four on Sunday in Houlton at The Art Studio on 102 Court Street.
A fifth round will also be available on Sunday for those who wish to play. Games will begin at 9 a.m., with a participant playing as many rounds as he/she wishes.
The tournament is 4SS — four rounds of chess are played with winners facing winners and those in the losers’ bracket playing each other in a G90 — 90 minutes to finish the game.
Entry fee is $15 for those who preregister and $20 at the door. There will be two sections — open and under 1400. The under 1400 will be in Houlton only, with four rounds game 60 on Saturday.
Prizes are worth $100 based on 10 participants, with first winning $50; second, $30 and third, $20.
Entries can be sent to Roger Morin, 102 Court St., Houlton, Maine 04730 or call 521-0435. Morin can also be reached by e-mail at houltonart@yahoo.com.
