Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan, center, attended the Police Academy with two new patrol officers with the department, Officer Jay Trainer of Presque Isle, left, and Officer Chad Cochran of Caribou.

“They’re both dedicated individual committed to serving the people of Caribou,” said Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan. “Each of them brings additional talent and education to the force [as they’re trained in all aspects of police work] and we hope that have long, successful careers with the department.”

Like all other members of Caribou PD, both Trainer and Cochran will be patrol officers. While some department have specialized detective units focus on specific cases, all of Caribou’s officers are involved in all aspects of each investigation, which Chief Gahagan credits for the department’s high clearance rate (meaning they’re able to reach a resolution in most all situations their services are required).

While a healthy amount of educational training is needed to become an officer with the department, all Caribou Police Officers spend 20 hours a year undergoing continuous service training.

All officers of the Caribou Police Department are now graduates of the academy, save one who is scheduled to complete the 18 weeks of training in 2011.
