Spragueville Homemakers Extension
Extension enjoys holiday season
On Nov. 15, 11 members and one guest, Laura Thomas, met at the Aroostook State Park Lodge, for their regular monthly meeting.
Vice President Marianne Thomas called the meeting to order, in the absence of President Sylvia Harper. The Homemaker’s Creed was recited, roll call and volunteer hours were recorded by Secretary/Treasurer LaVone Walters. LaVone then gave her respective secretary/treasurer’s reports.
Under New Business – LaVone reported that the group now has its own federal IRS identification number; thus, there will be no further need to include a member’s personal name on any accounts.
Lois Griffin informed the group that Brandon Getchell is currently serving our country in Afghanistan, and that she planned to send him a holiday “care package”. Members voted to also include items for the package, with homemade goodies more than appreciated; items to be dropped off at Ann Knight’s. The Extention paid the postage for shipping.
Mona Cyr reported that the Extension would be serving stews and homemade pies at the PI Snowmobile Club Friday, Jan. 28.
Marianne gave a presentation on much-needed money and supplies for the Central Aroostook Humane Society. It was decided that rather than have a Yankee Swap at the Christmas Party, items for the shelter would be brought for their needs. In addition, a monetary donation would be given for the spay/neuter account at the shelter.
Following adjournment of the business meeting, in conjunction with the group’s annual November Crafts Night, Marianne and daughter, Laura, gave a demonstration on making homemade suet for bird feeders, with many healthy ingredients combined and added to melted lard. The mixture was then used to fill small pumpkins to hang outside. This certainly was a very interesting demonstration, and everyone was delighted to take home a feeder. Refreshments were furnished by Lois Griffin, Joyce Bither and Ann Knight.
On Dec. 13, 11 members and one guest, Laura Thomas, met at Marilyn Wheeler’s home for the annual Christmas Party. President Sylvia Harper called the short business meeting to order, followed by the Creed being recited, roll call taken and volunteer hours being recorded. Secretary/Treasurer LaVone Walters gave her respective reports.
Under New Business – Sylvia reported that the Extension had been asked to supply and serve light breakfast items (muffins, sweet breads, donuts) for the Hospitality Committee at the Biathlon World Cup Competition, Feb. 3-4. More information on this project will be forthcoming.
It was voted to give the group’s four honorary members a Christmas card with a Christmas gift check. A discussion was held on the Extension’s Stew Night at the PI Snowmobile Club on Jan. 28; all members are to furnish pies for the pie sale. The Food Committee will meet and then contact members on further details of making stews/soups, plus the work schedule. “Coins for Caring” were collected, followed by President Sylvia adjourning the meeting. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful assortment of refreshments, which were furnished by all present. No meeting in January.
