Schafer named Panther Idol

MARS HILL — Fourteen acts competed in two age categories for the title of Panther Idol 2010 on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 12, at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center. Jack Schafer claimed the overall title for 2010 with his karate demonstration.

In the Pre-school thru Grade 5 category, first place went to Noelle Cote, who sang “White Horse,” accompanied by her father John on the guitar. Second place went to the All Star Cheerleaders with their routine to “Cotton Eyed Joe.” Others competing included the All Star Elementary Dance Group with a ballet routine, the All Star Preschool Dance Group with a dance to “I Like to Move It, Move It;” Madison Crouse with a dance to “Itty Bitty Pretty Thing;” and the All Star Elementary Dance Group to “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”

In the Grade 6 and Up group, first place went to Kelsie Dominique with a clogging dance routine to “Up.” Second place went to Mariah Brewer, singing “Breakaway.” Others competing included Sarah Gerritsen with a bar gymnastics routine, Halee Rusby with a beam gymnastics routine, Erin Scully with a lyrical ballet to “All Around Me,” Noelle Bailey singing “O Holy Night” and Sadie Curit singing “Don’t Stop Believing.”

Emcees for the evening were Mikala Woollard and Janine Stackpole. Special entertainment was provided by Fireman Fred Parsons and 2009 Panther Idol Chloe Wheeler. Judges for the event were Chris Finnemore, Betsy Allen and Fred Parsons.
