Hitting clinic offered

The University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team will host a two-day hitting clinic from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 28 and 29 in Wieden Gymnasium.

This two-day hitting clinic will focus on the fundamentals of hitting and bunting a baseball. Much attention will be given to the proper grip and swing mechanics while engaging in various hitting drills.  Three hitting cages and several hitting stations will ensure that each child receives the maximum hitting time.

The cost for this clinic is $50 per athlete and athletes 8-16 years of age are invited to attend. For more information on registering for this clinic, please contact coach Leo Saucier by telephone at 768-9421 or email at leo.saucierjr@umpi.edu.

Caverhill off to Germany

Caribou resident Stephanie Caverhill is heading to Germany Dec. 28 to serve as a massage therapist for the United States Nordic Ski Team during the two-week Tour de Ski.

Caverhill, who along with her husband Troy own Northern Physical Therapy in Presque Isle, had received a tip from a client that the U.S. Ski Team was looking for a massage therapist. She pursued it, first contacting coach Chris Grover and then going through a credentialing process, a background check and a review of letters of recommendation.

“I finally got the okay from the team physical therapist, Tara Fontenot, that I was cleared to join them,” Caverhill said. “I feel very honored to have been considered for this position and am looking forward to going.”

Caverhill will return Jan. 10, 2011.
