LIMESTONE — Approximately 20 festive entries musically floated their way down Limestone’s Main Street on Nov. 27 during the annual Light Parade, themed “Sounds of the Season.” While judging was difficult, five floats were awarded prizes.

Limestone Fire Chief Paul Durepo was bestowed the honor of chauffeuring Santa through the Limestone Light Parade. The vehicle of choice was one of the department’s smaller vehicles, which enabled the chief to drive Santa right up to each and every good little boy and girl who attended the parade. Over 30 youths followed Santa to the Recreation Department after the parade to get their photos taken and tell him what they wanted for Christmas.

With thousands and thousands of bulbs decorating the department’s trucks, the Limestone Fire Department received a $50 gift certificate to AL-BEAR’S for having the Best Lights of the parade.

Edgecomb Farms received a $50 gift certificate to Mike’s Family Market for having the Best Theme of the parade; their catchy tune “Candy Cane Lane” will certainly be echoing in the ears of parade-goers until Easter.

The Most Creative award, with a $50 gift certificate to William’s Construction went to Limestone Apartments and owner Gary O’Neal with their entry to the song “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”

The Best Business Entry went to Mike’s Family Market for their float featuring Santa running the register. Mike’s Family Market won a WAGM gift certificate.

The Most Musical Award went to a business who wrote their own variation to a popular carol; titled “The Twelve Days of Christmas … at AL-BEAR’S,” restaurant owners solicited their family’s help on Thanksgiving Day to record the song, which celebrated the season with “12 wing-dings, 11 broccoli bits, 10 chicken fingers, nine bread sticks, eight eagles nests, seven beef bombs, six chicken burgers, five onion rings, four cheeseburgers, three French fries, two tuna melts and a slice of pepperoni.”

While the weather outside was frightful, Limestone’s queens found the parade to be quite delightful. Showing pride for their hometown was Miss Limestone 2010 Audra Kirk and Junior Miss Limestone 2010 Julia Weatherhead. The two rode on the Limestone Chamber of Commerce float.

The new groomer of the Limestone Snow Hawks is tough enough to handle all the town’s snowmobile trails, so carting a load of presents down Main Street was a festive breeze for the machinery (which was itself driving atop a flat bed).

It was a hunka-hunka-holiday fun as Elvis danced his way through the light parade.
