CARIBOU — The Maine Veterans’ Home Christmas Gift Shop, an event sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, was held on Nov. 26. During this time donations of gifts, submitted from the American Legions and Auxiliaries of Aroostook County are displayed.

Holiday shopping was made very convenient for residents at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou when  members of the American Legion Auxiliaries throughout the county purchased gifts for residents to select from. Daniel Field, volunteered with the organizations efforts.

These items are available for the residents of the Veterans’ Home to choose from, allowing them to shop (free of charge) for holiday gifts to give to their family members. If families members reside out of the area, the gifts are mailed for them, again at no cost.

This year there were 17 volunteers plus staff taking part in the much anticipated holiday tradition, according to Kathy Robinson, Veterans’ Home coordinator for the American Legion Auxiliary.

“There were plenty of gifts to choose from with a few left over for next year,” stated Robinson, “and in addition to this event, gifts are also bought from the same funds for the residents. Staff solicit gift requests from the residents and every effort is made to get them exactly what they want and are placed under the Christmas tree at the Veterans’ Home.”
