HOULTON – Louise M. Weston, 89, died Dec. 5, 2010, at home with her family by her side. She was born June 14, 1921, in Hodgdon, daughter of Maurice C. and Ruth (Barton) Duff.
She was a member of East Hodgdon Bible Church where she was a choir member, Sunday school teacher, mission’s committee chairperson and supported children’s ministries in many ways.
Louise graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She was a nurse first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving in France from May 1943 to February 1946, and was awarded a campaign star for Rhineland Campaign, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. She was an inveterate walker, usually on her way to the hospital or nursing homes to visit residents and patients. She retired from nursing in 1986 after 35-plus years at Aroostook General and Houlton Regional hospitals.
She is survived by five sons, Daniel and Linda, Thomas and Lynn, James and Lori, all of Houlton, Peter and Carol of Montville, and Philip and Colleen of Charleston, S.C.; three daughters, Ellen and Reggie Williams of Hodgdon, Ann and Stephen Socoby of Bangor, and Rachel and Terry Lincoln of Houlton; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Harold and Evelyn Duff of Thomaston, Guy Duff of St. Petersburg, Fla., Glenn and Flora Duff of Hodgdon, Leon and Barbara Duff of Vassalboro, George and Mary Duff of Lancaster, Pa., and Oland and Alice Duff of Waldoboro; two sisters, Norma and Richard Benoit of Henderson Harbor, N.Y., and Margaret and Robert Smith of Hodgdon; sisters-in-law, Dorothy E. Weston of Houlton and Joyce Duff of New Haven, Conn.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Paul, she was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Raymond Duff. Our family extends a special thanks to Jane, Mim, Debbie, Janet and Jackie of Visiting Nurses of Aroostook for their extraordinary support for our mom and her family.
Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, where funeral services will begin 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Juris officiating. Interment will be at East Hodgdon Cemetery.
