CHALOU, Alphonse J., 95, ASHLAND, at Presque Isle, December 3, 2010. Arrangements are in the care of Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, Ashland.

ASHLAND – Alphonse J. Chalou, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010, in Presque Isle. He was born in Ashland, December 21, 1914, the son of Paul and Rosalie (Theriault) Chalou.

Alphonse was employed for many years by the Great Northern Paper Company as a grader operator. He was very active in the parish of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and was the last surviving charter member of the Knights of Columbus Ashland Council 2889 as a Fourth Degree Knight.
He is survived by his children, Rodney Chalou and his wife, Sylvia, of Masardis, Donna and her husband, Mike Regan of Ellington, CT, Neil Chalou of Ashland, Terry Chalou and his wife, Barbara, of Easton, Susan Chalou of Manchester, CT, and Douglas Chalou of Windsor, CT; 10 grandchildren, Kim, Kevin, Tina, Troy, Terry, Ricky, Rene, Aron, Marcel and Robert; 14 great-grandchildren. Alphonse leaves a special niece, Annette Couture of New Hampshire; special nephews, Carlton Jimmo of Virginia, and Don Tardie of Ashland; the extended Chalou/Tardie family; special friends, Sonny O’Clair, Dick Thombs, and Henry Akeley and a host of friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Evangeline (Tardie) Chalou;  two great-grandchildren, Michael Izzo and Dylan McCarthy; brothers, Edmond and Victor Chalou; sister, Phoebe (Chalou) Jimmo; and nephew, Adre Chalou.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, December 6, 2010, at St. Marks Catholic Church, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Memorial Fund or the Ashland Community Library in his memory.  Arrangements are a service of the Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland.
