Editor’s Note: The following is a poem written for veterans by students Natalie Rickards, Jordyn Ritchie, Cheyenne Unterrreiner, Hailey Boudreau and guitarist Cathy Evans.
Katahdin Elementary School’s 21st Century After School Program students were proud to honor local veterans on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The program was held at the Katahdin Elementary School. Some students wrote a special song for the veterans.
You Are A Hero
You fought our freedom
You let it ring
You fought for our country
So we’re able to sing
What you have done for us
We’ll never forget
It will stay with us
Even though we just met
You are a hero to me
That’s why I’m singing to you
You are the reason we can
Do what we do
You are a hero to me
You were far from your country
You were far from your home
You were afraid of being alone
But you stayed and fought
For the place that we love
And you fought for others
Far and above.
