The Wellington Elementary School gym in Monticello was filled with students, adults and pumpkins for the annual “Jack-O-Math” event held in October.
The 30th year of Jack-O-Math was a “golden opportunity” for students to practice measurement skills,” said Wellington School Principal, Nancy Wright. “Each student invited a parent, relative or family friend to assist them as they turned a pumpkin into a jolly Jack-O-Lantern.”Photos by Karen Donato

Wellington School in Monticello hosted a Pumpkin Math event last week. Parents, grandparents and friends visited school to assist the students with a variety of math activities, all centered around pumpkins.
“Students and staff members appreciated the extra time the pumpkin helpers contributed from their busy schedules. It meant so much to the children to have ‘company’ visit them at school,” said Wright.
