Men’s hoop results

The first week of play in the Caribou Men’s Basketball League saw the following results: St. Peter Construction 43, Gagnon Studio 42; Griffeth Ford 51, Loring Job Corps 45; Leo’s Citgo 63, Theriault Lawn Care 34; Freddy Ps 78, Time Warner Cable 59.

Tonight’s matchups include Freddy Ps vs. Gagnon Studio at 7  p.m. and Leo’s Citgo vs. Griffeth Ford at 8 p.m. On Monday, Gagnon Studio takes on Loring Job Corps at 7 p.m. and Griffeth Ford matches up against Theriault Lawn Care at 8 p.m.

Turkey Trot slated Nov. 27

The 25th annual Turkey Trot 5K Road Race will be held Saturday, Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. at Caribou High School. Walkers will set off at 9:45 a.m.

The out-and-back 3.1-mile race is sponsored by Cary Medical Center. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the CHS gym lobby. The registration fee is $10, which includes a long-sleeved T-shirt to the first 50 to sign up. Post- race ceremonies include the traditional turkey-topped pizza and awards will be presented to race winners and age division winners in three categories and one walker’s division.

Pool hours

Fall general swim hours are Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-2:45 p.m. and Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 7-8:45 p.m.

The pool will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 25, but on Friday, Nov. 26, there will be an extra general swim offered from 1-2:45 p.m.

OAPI events

The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Outdoor Adventure Program will host two more events to close out the fall semester.

On Saturday, Nov. 20, registrants will go caving in Quebec and crawl through natural caves hidden in the hillside to discover a world unexplored. No experience is required and the registration deadline for this event is today at 4 p.m.

To close out the semester, registrants will be able to participate in biathlon target practice at the Nordic Heritage Sports Center on Friday, Dec. 3. Instruction and activities for this event will be led by local elite biathletes and the registration deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. For more information contact Kim McCrea at 768-9401.

Washburn’s McLaughlin part of third-place team in nation

Kelsee McLaughlin, a 2009 graduate of Washburn District High School, was a member of the Lancaster Bible College (Pa.) women’s soccer team which competed in last week’s National Christian College Athletic Association championships held in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Chargers beat Baptist Bible College of Clarks Summit, Pa. in the third-place game Friday, 5-1, after dropping a 2-1 decision to Maranatha Baptist Bible College of Watertown, Wis. in the semifinals Thursday. In last Wednesday’s quarterfinal, Lancaster defeated North Central (Minn.), 4-0.

McLaughlin, a sophomore, played defense for the Chargers. She is also a member of the college’s basketball team. She is the daughter of Rev. George and Bonnee McLaughlin of Wade.
