The Faculty Council of the Caribou Chapter of the National Honor Society at Caribou High School recently announced the election of the newest members to be inducted into the prestigious society.

The Caribou High School Chapter of the National Honor Society held their annual induction ceremony for the newest members on Nov. 4. Preceding the formal Pin and Oath Ceremony on Nov. 5, NHS members, inductees, staff and administration, and family members were dinner guests in the school cafeteria.
This year marks the 84th year of continuous service of the National Honor Society as an integral part of Caribou High School. Prior to the formal induction ceremony, Kenneth Atcheson, adviser to the NHS organization addressed the large group in attendance, explaining the program for the ceremony but also called attention to the success of the CHS boys cross-country team, which only recently had earned the title of State champions. Atcheson also recognized the team’s coach, Roy Alden, who had been named Coach of the Year. In further remarks, the NHS adviser praised the CHS girl’s varsity soccer team members who had achieved the title of Eastern Maine champs. As he requested members of both teams to stand and be recognized stated that many were NHS members or inductees.
“It is obvious,” stated Atcheson, “that these Caribou High School students and NHS members demonstrate academic prowess as well as athletic determination.”
During the evening affair, after the completion of the new member pining, Mark Jones, principal of CHS administered the NHS oath to the 24 new inductees.
The newest members of the Caribou High School National Honor Society are, from the Class of 2011: Matthew Coty, Nicole Cyr, Casey Nichols and Ethan Stetson. From the Class of 2012 are: Caleb Chapman, Annie Collins, Nickolas Dobson, Marigan Doody, Demarie Doody-Corriveau, Renee Dube, Katherine Keaton, Kelly Kashian, Joshua Kovach, Erin Madeore, Cory Marrett, Samantha Murchison, Katelyn Plourde, Kjetil Rossignol, Sarae Sager, Paige Small, Marc Sturzl, Morgan Swan, Elsa Thibodeau and Elisha Willey.
Special entertainment for the annual induction of new members ceremony included Kayla Collins and Elizabeth Keaton who performed a vocal rendition of “For Good,” accompanied on the piano by Laura Collins; and Madison Outing performed violin selections of “Ashokan Farewell” and “The Donegal Jig.”
Officers of the 2010-11 Caribou Chapter of the National Honor Society are: Christian Sleeper, president; Laura Collins, vice president; Madison Outing, recording secretary; Sarah Peterson, corresponding secretary; Duncan Flynn, executive council; Christian Sleeper, chairperson of the NHS induction ceremony and Kenneth W. Atcheson II, adviser.
Parents of NHS Alumni, under the direction of Patricia Anderson decorated the room with maroon and white tablecloths, matching NHS white and gold placemats and dinner napkins. Each table was festooned with plants provided by Noyes Flower and Plant Shoppe. Student volunteers from the CHS Classes of 2013-14 served the dinner. Nadine Ouellette, director of the CHS cafeteria, supervised the meal preparation.
The meal included chicken parmesan with brown sugar glazed carrots, russet Norkotah baked potatoes, Caesar salad, dinner rolls provided by Frederick’s Southside Restaurant and the famous NHS punch. A dessert bar of chocolate-chip cookies, brownies and chocolate-frosted cake completed the meal.
