The Aroostook County Branch of the American Red Cross Pine Tree Chapter is celebrating Veterans Day by distributing 300 free 500-minute domestic prepaid telephone calling cards to County veterans and military groups.
“Thanks to a generous donation from Sprint Nextel Corporation,” said branch manager Joyce Knorr, “we are able to provide these to local groups like the VFW, American Legion, and Caribou Veterans Services, as well as to the National Guard and local VA facility. They, in turn, can give them to veterans and active military personnel. It’s a small way for the Red Cross to say thank you for the service that these men and women have given to all of us.”
The cards, which can be used from any landline touchtone phone for calls anywhere in the United States or its territories and Puerto Rico, can be used through the end of January 2012. They are part of a large nationwide donation of nearly 500 million prepaid minutes to benefit the American Red Cross, its volunteers, and the people it serves throughout the year.
