Event to feature silent auction
PRESQUE ISLE — Momentum Aroostook and Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society are joining forces with Freddy P’s and Maine-based Winterport Winery to present “A Toast for the Animals” — a Wine Tasting and Silent Auction event on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and proceeds will benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
A ticket to the event, which will be held at Freddy P’s in downtown Presque Isle, will provide participants with four wine samples and an opportunity to learn from representatives of Winterport Winery about different wines and how to pair them.
The winery reps will share some of the techniques sommeliers use in judging wines, from appearance to finish, and in assessing their overall quality. Participants also will have the chance to learn about (and taste for themselves) the types of cheeses and desserts that pair well with the four wine varietals that will be presented at tasting stations throughout the venue.
The evening’s activities also will include a silent auction featuring several items, such as artwork, framed photographs, crafts, gift certificates and more. The evening’s featured item is a Date Night package that includes dinner for two at The Crow’s Nest restaurant, a gift basket from 22 Vodka and a one night’s stay at the Hampton Inn. Items for the auction have been donated by community members and local businesses. The proceeds from the auction will benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
“Donations to the humane society have been down this year due to the tough economy,” Friends group coordinator Hollie Gowen said. “We’re hoping that a fun event like this will both help with that shortfall and be a chance for people to support the shelter while having a good time.”
Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society is a group of volunteers who help with fundraisers and events, as well as spread the word about adoptable animals, upcoming events and shelter happenings. The group is kept up-to-date through periodic e-mails and a meeting once per quarter. The group was founded earlier this year. After a successful bake sale in the summer, members jumped right into planning for this wine-tasting event.
“This is an excellent opportunity not only for networking and enjoying a night on the town, but also raising money for an excellent cause,” Momentum Aroostook Steering Committee Chairwoman Rachel Rice said. “Momentum Aroostook is pleased to be partnering with Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society, Freddy P’s and Winterport Winery to host this special event for the community.”
Momentum Aroostook is a group of highly-motivated Aroostook County young people focusing on the 20 to 45 age demographic, connecting for career, social and community betterment. Momentum Aroostook strives to provide opportunities for networking, learning and fun for young adults and their families.

You must be at least 21 years old to attend and proper ID is required. Dress for this event is business casual.
