NESHRM  to host

Medical Marijuana Law workshop

PRESQUE ISLE – The Northeast Society for Human Resource Management (NESHRM) will sponsor a workshop presented by Maine employment attorney Peter Lowe Thursday, Nov. 18 at Northern Maine Community College.
The free workshop, “Managing Workplace Safety & Risk with Medical Marijuana, Drugs, and Alcohol,” will be held in the Edmunds Conference Center.

A continental breakfast will be held from 7:30-8 a.m., the program presentation will be from 8-9:30 a.m., and a question and answer period will follow from 9:30-10 a.m.
Maine’s new Medical Marijuana Law means new challenges for Maine’s businesses. Employers need to know how to handle this change:
• Do you need to make policy changes?
• How to handle discipline?
• How will you address safety concerns?
• Must you accommodate medical marijuana users?
Your policies and practices must balance the need for workplace safety with the rights of employees under the new Maine law, as well as existing laws such as the ADA, FMLA and the Drug Free Workplace Act. This workshop is designed to offer practical insights on substances in the workplace so you may be prepared to manage these issues and avoid the threat of substantial liability.
