PIECES SUCH AS THIS AMBER FRAME BRACELET, created by jewelry artist Kimberly Kennedy, will be on display throughout the month of November at the Wintergreen Arts Center’s Barresi Financial Art Gallery. In addition to Kennedy’s work, the show will also feature the artwork of Don Cyr of Lille. An opening party for both artists will be held at the center, located at 149 State St. in Presque Isle, Friday, Nov. 5 from 7-9 p.m. as part of the new First Friday Art Walk.

Wintergreen is excited to host this special show that combines the work of two exceptional artists. Kennedy is a jewelry artist and a resident of Aroostook County. Her one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets, earrings and watches are made with sterling silver, semi-precious gemstones, pearls, crystals, and glass beads. She was the owner and operator of The Silver Basket on Main Street in Presque Isle for three years. Prior to owning the business, she traveled the state of Maine art show circuit during which she earned a loyal following for her jewelry designs under the label “Gotta Have Beads.” Kennedy has been designing and creating her elegant and whimsical jewelry for about 10 years. Each piece she creates is a unique work of art that reflects her artistic talents.
Cyr is an artist and historian living in Lille, a tiny agrarian village in the Saint John Valley. Cyr’s artwork illustrates Acadian history and culture and he uses alkyd and gouache for his work. He was educated in Presque Isle and Orono and teaches as an adjunct instructor in history and art at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the Maine School of Science and Mathematics. Cyr has been very active in the preservation of Acadian culture and is the founder of the Association culturelle et historique du Mont-Carmel which is a museum and cultural center in Lille. He has collected thousands of Acadian artifacts and documents, and has raised over $2 million for the preservation of the former Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel church, a unique piece of architecture on the National Register of Historic Places.
Both artists’ work will be available for purchase with 20 percent of all sales being donated directly to the Wintergreen Arts Center.
The First Friday Art Walk is an event where people can meet, unwind, and enjoy the arts on the first Friday of each month between 5-9 p.m. Participating organizations include the Turner Memorial Library Gallery, Wintergreen Arts Center, Merchants on the Corner, Café Sorpreso, Morning Star Art & Framing, the Downtown Revitalization Committee, Freddy P’s, the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce and UMPI.
