MARS HILL — A Central Aroostook High School teacher has been charged with unlawful sexual touching according to the Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office.
A Mapleton resident, Alan J. Brown, 54, serves as the geography, civics, psychology and U.S. history teacher at the school, according to the school’s website. The charge was made late in September.
Information is limited at this point in the case. The District Attorney’s Office confirmed Brown is being investigated for an incident involving a person who is under the age of 18. The victim’s identity and gender is being withheld, as is typical in such cases. Officials would not say whether the victim attended CAHS or whether Brown was still employed at the high school.
The incident reportedly took place on Sept. 7, with Brown being charged the last week of September. Det. Dale Keegan, of the Maine State Police, received information from the D.A.’s Office, which led to an investigation and subsequent arrest of Brown in Presque Isle late last month.
Alan Harding has been named as Brown’s attorney. An arraignment date of Dec. 1 has been set in Caribou Superior Court. Unlawful sexual touching is a Class D crime punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
