CASTLE HILL — An Ashland man sustained serious injury in a single-vehicle accident on Route 163 Monday night.
“At approximately 8:20 p.m., the state police responded to a motor vehicle crash on the State Road in Castle Hill. Jason Durand, 28, of Ashland, was traveling east when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and left the roadway,” said Sgt. Tom Pelletier, Maine State Police.
According to Pelletier, Durand’s 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee struck a culvert in the driveway of Gerald McGlinn’s residence and became airborne, striking a tree and a vehicle belonging to McGlinn.
“Durand remained pinned in the vehicle. Mapleton Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Using hydraulic equipment, emergency personnel were able to get to Durand,” said Pelletier.
Durand was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with extensive trauma to his legs.
The Jeep sustained extensive damage and is considered a total loss. Damage to McGlinn’s vehicle and property is estimated around $5,000.
“The cause of the crash remains under investigation,” said Pelletier.
Trooper Dennis Quint is the primary investigating officer.
