Sneakin’ In Science Program, sponsored by the Houlton Recreation Department, will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 and 17, as well as Dec. 1 and 8 at the Houlton Recreation Center.
Sara McQuarrie will be the instructor.
The program will be held from 6-7 p.m. for children between the ages of 7-12 years. Cost is $40 per child. To register, call 532-1310 by Nov. 9.
This program will include sessions such as: What do you know about water? The children will learn about the properties of water. Are you up to the challenges of making a paper clip float? How many drops of water can you fit on a penny? Take home sand that stays dry no matter what you do! What happens when I … ? Do you like to mix a little of this with a little of that and see what happens?
Participants will mix up a pile of fluffy snow that won’t melt! Take it home and reuse it. Make silly putty and everybody’s favorite, oobleck! Learn about the properties of matter as you make a mess. Ever wonder what creates waves? How better to learn than to make your own wave tube? Look at lots of different shells from the Maine coast and beyond.
Finally, make a cool diving toy that can be used without getting wet! These plants do what? Plants can’t move on their own right? This plant can. Just wait until you see what it does when you touch it. Learn all about plants and soil and look at lots of different seeds and even dissect some to see what’s inside!
