Soccer high school preliminary games for girls will be Oct. 22 and boys’ prelims will be Oct. 23. The girls’ quarterfinals are Oct. 26, with the boys playing their quarterfinals on Oct. 27. Class C and D girls and boys semifinals will be held on Oct. 29.
On Tuesday, the Houlton Shiretowners were ranked fourth with an 11-2 record. If the standings hold, they will host Madawaska in the quarterfinals. The Houlton Lady Shires, 8-4-1, as of the latest Heal Point standings were ranked seventh and will travel to Orono for their quarterfinal game.
In Class D, the Southern Aroostook Warriors are ranked second with a 11-2-1 record will host the playoff winner of the Wisdom/Jonesport-Beals game. The Katahdin Cougars are ranked seventh in the latest Class D Heal Points with an 8-5-1 record and look to travel to Fort Fairfield in their quarterfinal game. The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors are currently in second position with a 12-2 record and if the standings hold, they will host Bangor Christian in their quarterfinal contest.
Houlton girls tie Madawaska, defeat Hodgdon
To wrap up the season, the Houlton girls went through double overtime to earn a 2-2 tie with host Madawaska on Monday.
Houlton’s Amanda Fogarty scored in the first half to give Houlton a 1-0 lead, but Valeria Parker came back to tie the game at halftime for the Owls.
In the second half, Taylor Bailey put Houlton ahead 2-1, but the Owls’ Erin Dugal tied the score with 3:37 left in the second half.
Houlton goalie Marina Cameron blocked 10 of 14 shots, while Madawaska’s Amanda Nadeau turned back seven of nine shots.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Shires topped host Hodgdon, 4-1, behind goals by Abby Kinens, Cameron, Fogarty and Bailey. Kinens added an assist in the contest, while goalie Ashley Drew stopped seven of 12 shots.
For Hodgdon, Kenzie Palmer scored on a Britta Oliver’s assist, while goalie Kimberly Levesque rejected 24 of 30 shots.
Warriors lose by one
Last Thursday, the Owls edged the Southern Aroostook boys, 3-2 in Madawaska. D.J. Gendreau scored the unassisted-winning goal with 23 minutes left in the second half.
The Warriors’ Logan Buckley and Cody Robinson each scored unassisted goals, while goalie Jesse Boulier had14 saves on 17 shots faced.
For Madawaska, net keeper Tim Deschenes stopped nine of 11 shots.
Lady Warriors win
The Southern Aroostook girls topped Woodland, 2-1 last Tuesday in Dyer Brook when Jasmine Rockwell’s second goal of the game, in the second half, broke a 1-all tie. Jillian Diaferio assisted on both Rockwell goals. Goalie Mallary Lawlor made seven saves.
East Grand plays twice
In back-to-back games, the East Grand boys were shut out by their opponents. Last Wednesday, the Woodland Dragons blanked the Vikings 3-0.
Viking goalie Alex Brittain had eight saves on17 shots faced, while Ryan Lincoln set aside one of six shots.
Last Tuesday, the Vikings were shut out 3-0 by host Easton. Viking goalie Brittain blocked 21 of 32 shots, while Easton netkeeper Cody Tompkins made two saves.
Lady Vikes fall
Last Tuesday, the Lady Vikings fell to Easton, 8-2.
Shaunna Beaudoin scored both East Grand goals, while Jenny Armstrong had an assist and Armstrong made 23 saves in goal.
Cougars overtake Beavers
Also last Tuesday, the Katahdin Cougars blanked visiting Washburn, 5-0 behind two scores from Micah Rodgerson and a goal and two assists from Kolby Gallagher. Mickey Savage and Jordan Pelkey each scored, while Forest Heath and Kohle Birmingham added assists. Goalie Jesse McNally made eight saves off 14 shots.
Beaver goalie Zachary Davis turned back 18 of 32 shots.
