What Kids Say

Scott Mitchell Johnson talked to students at Mapleton Elementary School.

“What’s the first thing you would do if your car went off the road during a snowstorm, and what supplies would you want to have with you?”

“I’d call the tow truck to have them repair us.
I’d want to have safety stuff in the car like flyswatters
because sometimes flies and other bugs get in your cars.
I’d also want some tools like a wrench and stuff.”

“I’d fix the car with like a hammer, wrench or screwdriver.
If there was a flat I’d put new tires on.
If we got stuck I’d use a shovel to help dig us out.
It might be good to have an axe, too,
but I don’t know why, and a fire extinguisher.”

“I would get out and help my Dad shovel.
If Dad wouldn’t let me, I would just stay in the car and stay warm with a blanket.
We always carry a shovel and blanket with us.
I’d want to have a little game to get the problem off my mind.
My favorite video game is Indiana Jones.”

“I’d probably get out and call a tow truck or something.
I’d have snow tires in the car and would then put them on.
I’d probably have a blanket and a pillow so I could take a nap,
and maybe a snack like beef jerky.
I’d also want my phone so I could listen to music.”

“I would call 9-1-1 for them to come and help.
Things I would want in my vehicle is probably a really long tube to breathe
and something to help get us get in the hatch and get out.
I would also want  to have some hot food to keep you warm.
Something like popcorn and a dinner that was already warmed up.”

“I’d call a wrecker. While I was waiting in the car,
I’d want to have a blanket and warm clothing like a winter coat,
hat and mittens. I’d also want to have a Game Boy
to help pass the time.
It might be good to have some water to drink.”
