On Sunday, Nov. 21, the Perkins/Plourde American Legion and Auxiliary, Post Unit136 of Stockholm will host an oratorical contest, sponsored by the American Legion and which is a nationwide event. Local winners, will advance to participate in state and then national competitions.
Open to all high school students, the speaking contest includes two segments, the first being a prepared ten minute speech regarding some phase of the United States Constitution with the second part a three to five-minute assigned topic discourse from the Articles and Sections of the Constitution.
The state-level winner will receive $1,000 and the national winner is awarded $18,000. Other winners are also recognized.
