County Physical Therapy hosts free ‘Get Fit Night’

Richard Ezzy, vice president of County Physical Therapy is reminding area residents that the month October is being celebrated as National Physical Therapy Month by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). This year’s focus is making the commitment to be physically active, which is one of the best ways for children and adults to prevent or combat obesity and its consequences.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there are approximately 72.5 million Americans that are obese, excluding children. Childhood obesity has also been on the rise over the years according to statistics put out by the CDC. Obesity can contribute to some of the leading causes of death including stroke, diabetes, and heart disease. The CDC estimates the annual medical cost of obesity to be as high as $147 billion dollars.

“County Physical Therapy (CPT) will host a free ‘Get Fit Night’ and open house at all their locations on Tuesday, Oct. 26, in recognition of National Physical Therapy Month,” stated Ezzy. “Consistent with the APTA’s theme, the features of CPT’s ‘Get Fit Night’ will offer demonstrations and a chance to participate in home exercises, and tips on how families can stay active and incorporate physical activities into their daily lives,” he added.

The team at CPT will be on hand to answer questions about their profession, as well as offer advice on activities to combat obesity. In addition to the demonstrations, there will be educational handouts, tours of the facility and giveaways of fitness memberships, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and gym bags.

At CPT locations in Presque Isle, at 5 North Street and in Caribou, at 118 Bennett Drive, the “Free Get Fit Night” and Open House will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 6p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and the public is invited and welcome to stop by. As a bonus, all attendees get a free Fitness Center Day Pass just for stopping by.
