Don’t be fooled by Willette

To the editor:
I consider myself an independent, I supported Democrat Michael Willette in 2008 when he ran for State House in Presque Isle. I expected a representative that would work tirelessly for his people, what I got was empty promises. I am disappointed by how the citizens of Presque Isle were represented in the last two years.

It is disturbing to me that Michael Willette thinks that it is OK to just show up once a week to collect a paycheck and still run for office again! His roll call is shockingly disappointing, as many people voted for him with the expectation that he would represent and advocate for us in Augusta, yet he only showed up to vote on the really important bills (most of the time). You cannot advocate for Presque Isle or stop bad legislation from becoming law without being down there in the action.
During the pro-Democratic year of 2008, Michael firmly stood by his party beliefs. During his term, he has voted with Governor Baldacci and Democrats nearly 80 percent of the time. This year he has gone out of his way to make people think he is a Republican, when his voting record clearly says otherwise. If he can’t even decide on a party how can he stand up to partisan politics and do what is right for the people of Presque Isle. His behavior and clear political opportunism as a fair-weather candidate are quite appalling. Why should we expect anything different this time? We need to hold our representatives to a higher standard; we need to demand accountability and action from our elected officials.
This November, I will be voting for Jessica Chase Smith, she is the right choice for me, and for Presque Isle. She is dedicated to representing the people who elected her and not just collecting a paycheck. Jessica will bring my voice and the voice of Presque Isle to Augusta.
