The Southern Aroostook Community School boys and girls soccer teams are both seeded number two in the Class D Heal Point standings.
The SACS girls’ team defeated Bangor Christian, 1-0, on Saturday and East Grand, 6-2 last Wednesday to improve to 11-2 on the season.
Against visiting Bangor Christian, Jillian Diaferio booted in a loose ball for the game-winning tally just 10 minutes into the contest. Goalie Mallory Lawlor preserved the shutout by stopping all seven shots she faced.
For Bangor Christian, Sam Martin had nine saves on 12 shots.HUSTLE — Houlton’s Jimmy Fitzpatrick battles a Katahdin player for possession of the ball during last Tuesday night’s game in Houlton. The Shires picked up the win, 5-1.
In Danforth, the Lady Warriors picked up the win behind Jasmine Rockwell’s hat trick and assist. Katelyn Goodall scored a goal and added an assist. Janel Rockwell and Rita Kinney each scored as well. Goalie Lawlor turned back 10 of 14 shots.
For East Grand, Shaunna Beaudoin scored twice, while goalie Jane Cousins blocked six of 16 shots.
The Southern Aroostook boys have a record of 11-1-1 after defeating East Grand last Wednesday, 7-1.
At Danforth, Cody Lassonde and Patrick Goodall each scored two goals, with Cody Robinson and Jake Lassonde each adding another goal and assist for the Warriors. Dylan Willette chipped in with a goal, while Anthony Diaferio and Joe Frazier each added an assist. Goalie Jesse Boulier made one save on four shots.
For East Grand, Dustin Morse scored an unassisted goal and goalie Alex Brittain rejected 25 of 49 shots faced.
On Friday, the Vikings fell to Wisdom, 8-1 in St. Agatha.
Logan Crone scored the lone goal for the Vikings, while goalie Brittain stopped 24 of 37 shots.
On Thursday, the Vikings were defeated by visiting Shead, 7-1.
Again, it was Crone who scored unassisted for the Vikings and Brittain blocked 14 of 27 shots faced.
In Class C, the Houlton girls soccer team is ranked eighth in the standings with a 7-4 record after blanking visiting Calais, 3-0 on Saturday.
Houlton’s Amanda Fogarty scored twice and assisted on another goal to lead her team to the win. Abby Kinens also scored for the Lady Shires. Goalie Ashley Drew set aside four of five shots.
For Calais, netkeeper Paige Gillespie had nine saves on 13 shots.
“We are pretty close to where I thought we’d be,” said Houlton coach Tim Tweedie of the latest Heal Points. “We are currently in eighth, but are only two points out of sixth. So, it is going to be a tight finish.”
On Friday, the Lady Shires were defeated 4-0 by host Fort Kent.
Houlton netkeeper Marina Cameron had seven saves on 17 shots.
The Lady Shires fared better last Wednesday at home as they shut out Schenck, 3-0. Drew and Cameron combined for the shutout.
Kristin Thompson and Kaprice Tompkins combined in net for Schenck to stop 14 of 21 shots.
In boy’s action on Saturday, the Houlton Shiretowners blanked visiting Calais as well, 5-0, and are ranked fourth in Class C with a 10-2 record.
George Bessa scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Shires, while Craig Thomas scored the other two goals. Dan Swallow and Brandon Ward added the assists. Goal keeper Cody Briggs saved all 10 shots he faced.
Calais goalie Tyler Morrison turned away 15 of 20 shots
On Friday, the Shiretowners were shut out by host Fort Kent, 3-0.
Houlton goalie Briggs blocked seven of 20 shots, while Fort Kent’s Alex Charette made eight saves on 17 shots.
Last Tuesday night, the Shiretowners defeated visiting Katahdin, 5-1.
Garry Fowler scored twice, while Dylan Gard and Jimmy Fitzpatrick each added a goal for the Shiretowners. Micah Goetsch, Bessa and Fitzpatrick all had assists. For Katahdin, Kolby Gallagher scored unassisted, and goalie Makayla Patterson stopped 15 of 29 shots.
On Saturday, the Bangor Christian Patriots blanked visiting Katahdin, 5-0.
Jesse McNally made 15 saves on 34 shots, while Patriot goal keeper Tyler Alexander turned aside two of five shots.
On Friday, the Cougars overtook visiting Schenck, 5-2 behind two goals from Gallagher, along with single tallies from Mickey Savage, Pat Knowles and Micah Rodgerson. Savage also added an assist in the contest. Goalie McNally made six saves on 10 shots, while Zach McLaughlin of Schenck turned back 11 of 19 shots.
