American Legion Auxiliary launches membership drive

    HOULTON — The Chester L. Briggs American Legion Post No. 47 on Bangor Rd. is holding a membership drive Saturday, Oct. 16, 5-7 p.m. with an early bird dinner.
    Tammy Acott, American Legion Auxiliary president in Houlton, said veterans and family members can join the organization to become eligible for various services and discounts. “We want the public to be aware of our services and the opportunities available for veterans and family members,” stated Acott.
    Among the benefits Acott cited were discounts for fuel, hotels and vehicle rentals as well as local scholarships. She also said the post is active in many local fund-raising events for the community in addition to donating volunteer time and being an active participant in official ceremonies related to the military.
    Acott added that the roast beef dinner will be free for members whose dues are paid, while members whose dues are not paid and any guests will pay $8 for admission.
    The Hill Billy Rock band will provide entertainment from 8-12 p.m. For more information, call: 532-9046.
