    At a ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 10, hosted by the Presque Isle Elks, Consul General of France Christophe Guilhou presented to Eugene E. Sawyer of Presque Isle the Legion of Honor, France’s highest military award, in recognition of Sawyer’s heroism while serving with the 9th Infantry Division, 47th Regiment, 2nd Battalion, H Company in liberating France during World War II. Pictured here are Consul General Guilhou presenting to Sawyer the edict signed by President of France Nicolas Sarkozy directing the presentation of the Legion d’ Honneur to Sawyer.
