The Northern Skiers Club and the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department are pleased to announce that they have partnered with private philanthropists within the community to offer a Nordic Ski Rental program in Caribou this year. This year, students in grades 1-8 will be able to take advantage of the program and rent a set of Nordic skiis, boots and poles for the winter for a fee of $80. A portion of the fee is refundable once the equipment is returned in the spring.

“Caribou is fortunate to have three facilities where families can enjoy Nordic skiing and snowshoeing without having to venture far from home,” stated Kathy Mazzuchelli, superintendent of Caribou Parks and Recreation, “Teague Park features Nordic ski trails, a terrain park, a sliding/ski hill and ice rink in the winter for families to enjoy.”

“The ski trails at the Caribou High School offer five kilometers of lighted trail for a quick ski or snowshoe,” said Mazzuchelli, “while the Caribou Ski Trails at the Caribou Country Club offer 10 miles of groomed trail with set track through the woods for those who want to experience a leisurely ski in the great outdoors.”

Notices with information regarding the rental equipment will be distributed through the Caribou Schools this month. There will be 80 ski sets available on a first come, first serve basis.  Anyone interested in renting are required to attend a meeting on Thursday, Nov, 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. This meeting is designed to provide potential renters with information about the program, collect rental fees and to size renters for equipment.

There will also be a variety of displays for attendees to visit during the Nov. 4 meeting, that will provide information about enjoying the winter experience in Aroostook. Information on adult ski and snowshoe rentals will also be available.
