Caribou kids dine with teddybears during library picnic

While area hunting enthusiasts were preparing for Monday’s opening day of moose season, last Wednesday, a group of young children were more concerned with another creature —  one of a more soft nature and not quite comparable in size to the long-legged moose —Teddy bears  or other soft friends.   The ones that accompany them most everywhere they go — even to the Caribou Public Library.

“If you go down to the woods today, you’d better not go alone, ‘cause today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.”

Sept. 22, at the Caribou Public Library was the annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic – honoring all those loveable, huggable bears, many of which have been washed, dried, stitched and re-stitched — always close at hand, ready to hear the best of secrets, to be sung to, danced with and of course, tucked under an arm to sleep with.

The Teddy bears and their best friends all joined in as Jean Shaw, children’s librarian, hosted the annual picnic, featuring the introduction of all guests, listening to the story of the “Teddy Bears’ Picnic, singing, dancing and of course — the best part of any picnic — snacks.
