LIMESTONE — During the last meeting of the Loring Development Authority(LDA) on Sept. 8, board members adopted a resolution to allow LDA President and CEO Carl Flora to approve an agreement with officials of Loring BioEnergy LLC regarding usage rights on the pipeline that extends from Loring down to Searsport. Flora also informed board members that the repaving project for the Northcutt and Cupp Road segments are slated to begin around the end of September pending the board’s adoption of a $350,000 loan resolution through Katahdin Trust Company that would allow the project to go forward.

The board also received an update on a new Shoreland Zoning Map, which the board members first voted to institute change back in March of this year when they approved the new Shoreland Zoning Ordinance. The new map continues undergoing minor changes in order to meet Maine Department of Environmental Protection compliance.

During his president’s report, Flora informed board members that Telford Aviation is currently out of the picture at Loring; usage of the iconic Arch hanger has been leased with Maine XPO. Despite the change, former Telford employees are currently employed by another aviation company called SAIC, who has taken over the unmanned aircraft development operations at the former Telford site. SAIC is also looking to possibly move two additional projects to Loring.

Flora also reported that the Land Speed Racing events held at Loring on July 31 and Aug. 1 were tremendously successful and gave Loring considerable exposure.
