PRESQUE ISLE – A Presque Isle man with 15 years experience coaching golf at the collegiate level in Aroostook County will take over the reins of the Northern Maine Community College golf team this fall.

Joseph Zubrick, who has coached golf at both the University of Maine at Fort Kent and the University of Maine at Presque Isle, will coach the Falcons for the upcoming season.
Zubrick, who has been an avid golfer since his high school years, led the UMFK Bengals to back-to-back conference championships in 2006 and 2007 during his tenure with the team, which began in 2004 and ended last fall. Prior to taking the helm at Fort Kent, he coached the UMPI Owls golf team for nearly a decade from 1994 through 2003.
“Joe is a great addition to our coaching staff here at NMCC,” said Lori Googins, athletic director. “His experience coaching golf at the collegiate level and his passion for the sport make him the ideal candidate to build our program and take it to the next level.”
Zubrick has been a member of the Presque Isle Country Club since 1982. He also is a member of the St. John Valley Seniors, which holds regular golf tournaments at area clubs throughout the season.
“I am excited about this opportunity,” said Zubrick. “I am familiar with the program as my former teams at both UMPI and UMFK would compete regularly with NMCC. There has always been a very collegial relationship between the schools on the course and I look forward to continuing that tradition and growing the program here.”
Zubrick is an associate professor of theater and oral communications at UMFK. Prior to joining the UMFK campus he was a faculty member at UMPI and also served that campus in a number of administrative capacities including interim director of the library, interim associate vice president for academic affairs, interim dean of arts and sciences, division chair in the humanities department and director/designer of theatre.
He is very involved in the Aroostook County performing arts community, serving as director of the Caribou Performing Arts Center, running the drama club at Caribou High School and assisting the drama departments at both Fort Kent and Presque Isle High School.
