PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Karin Fischer, award-winning senior reporter with The Chronicle of Higher Education, on Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center.
As a 2010 Jefferson Fellow in China and East Asia, Fischer was able to investigate the political and personal changes Chinese citizens have undergone in order to transition from a society in which education was suspect, to a society where education is being seen as a key to success. During her time in China and East Asia, Fischer wrote extensively about international education and its role in global competitiveness.
Fischer will deliver the talk “The New China: A Rising Superpower Opts for Brainpower Rather than Manpower, and Looks to U.S. Colleges to Help It Succeed.” For more information call 768-9452.
