Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods reminds Caribou residents that there will be a brief ceremony held in front of the fire station on Saturday morning, Sept. 11. This ceremony is being held in memory of the horrific and tragic loss of life and the destruction which occurred on this same date in 2001, as terrorists flew two planes into the Twin Towers in New York City.

During the ceremony High Street will be closed to traffic at 8:46 a.m., until 8:51 a.m., in remembrance of the exact time the first plane struck. Vehicle operators and pedestrians are asked to take into consideration the events that occurred at this time nine years ago and to be patient as traffic is halted for these few minutes — literally a handful of seconds compared to the lifetime of loss suffered by the families and friends of those who perished on that day and those that followed.

The program will include an Invocation, the placement of Remembrance Wreaths by members of the VFW, American Legion, VA and CFD, remarks from Chief Woods and representatives from the Lister/Knowlton VFW and the Henry B. Pratt Jr. American Legion Post.

Just prior to 9 a.m., the ceremony will conclude with  the Presentation of Arms, Pledge of Allegiance and the playing of Taps.

The Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department will host an open house with tours of the fire station following the Sept. 11 ceremony.
