Beavers lead the pack
in ‘D’ girls standings

While the season has only just begun for most soccer squads in the state, many Aroostook County teams have already reached the halfway point to their seasons.
In Eastern Class D, Washburn (6-1-1, 22.3620) is first; Central Aroostook (2-4-1, 9.6291) is third; Ashland (2-1, 8.5714) is fourth; Easton (5-3, 8.3830) is fifth; and Fort Fairfield (3-4, 8.0612) is sixth.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Sept. 6.
Old Town 0, Presque Isle 0 (2OT) — At Presque Isle Saturday, Annie Cashon made seven saves on eight shots for Old Town as the Coyotes and Presque Isle battled to a scoreless tie through two overtimes. Meredith Stewart blocked one of two shots for Presque Isle.
Ashland 2, Hodgdon 0 – At Presque Isle Friday, the Hornets collected their third victory of the season on the strength of two goals by Anna Paradis. Danielle Higgins and Whitney Donovan had assists and Macie Bellanceau the shutout in goal.
Madawaska 7, CAHS 2 — At Madawaska Thursday, Nicole Cyr collected three goals to power Madawaska by Central Aroostook of Mars Hill. Samantha Nadeau netted two goals for the Owls. Megan Ouellette and Erin Dugal each added a goal while Valerie Parker tallied two assists. Amanda Nadeau blocked six of eight shots. Kristen Long and Marissa Anthony each scored a goal for the Panthers. Paige Garrison made 11 saves on 21 shots.
Washburn 2, Fort Fairfield 1 —At Washburn Thursday, Meghan Saucier netted the go-ahead goal with 13 minutes left in the game to lift Washburn by Fort Fairfield. Rebecca Campbell scored for the Beavers with 26:50 left in the first half off a pass from Carmen Bragg. Rayah Saucier made 13 saves on 19 shots. Logan Bubar scored an unassisted goal for Fort Fairfield with 21 minutes left in the game. Katy Donovan stopped 16 of 21 shots.
CAHS 2, Washburn 2 (2OT) — At Mars Hill Aug. 31, Vicki McIntyre netted two goals, including the game-tying goal 31 seconds into the second half, as Central Aroostook and Washburn battled to a tie through two overtimes. Marissa Anthony picked up an assist for the 2-4-1 Panthers. Paige Garrison made four saves on 11 shots. Rebecca Campbell and Lindsey Blackstone each scored a goal in the first half for 5-1-1 Washburn. Olivia Doody grabbed an assist while Rayah Saucier stopped seven of 20 shots.
Ashland 3, Easton 1 — At Easton Aug. 31, Kayla Cote scored a goal and assisted on another as Ashland improved to 2-1. Rachel Gillis and Brooke LaBelle had the other goals and Macie Bellanceau made nine saves on 27 shots. Ariana Babineau scored for 4-3 Easton, assisted by Katie Cyr, and Marissa Parlin made four saves on 12 shots.
