receives positive review from state

FORT FAIRFIELD – In an annual program review conducted by consultants for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant, Fort Fairfield’s afterschool program received high marks and positive accolades for the 2009-10 grant year. The program in Fort Fairfield met expectations in the categories of parent education and engagement, as well as administration and staff development.

21st Century was acknowledged as exceeding expectations in the areas of academic improvement, health and wellness along with engagement. In addition, consultants offered a list of positive accomplishments including:
• Consistent academic gains made for six consecutive years.
• High marks on teacher surveys indicating positive behavioral changes.
• High quality reflection and teambuilding components.
• Numerous environmental offerings that include “green” projects and recycling activities like a fashion show using trash and creating and performing a recycling puppet show.
The 21st Century afterschool program in Fort Fairfield serves students in grades 3-5 in the elementary school and offers programs for students in all middle and high school grades, including a girls group and an outing club. Programming for the 2010-11 school year will begin the week of Sept. 13 at all levels. This year, officials are calling the community to action, by asking for volunteers at the elementary school on Wednesdays of each week.
