Swim classes geared toward the very young

Parent and Toddler and infant classes are fun and friendly, aimed at building water confidence and skills through nursery rhymes and play in the water. The Presque Isle Indoor Pool offers Parent and toddler/Infant classes on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m.
The advantages of learning through the parent and baby class are that the basic swimming skills are learnt before any fear of water can develop. With the emphasis on fun, the children learn that water and swimming is fun from a very early age.
By attending the parent and baby class, the children get used to the swimming environment with the comfort of having their parent in the water with them. By the time they move onto the preschool lessons, they are ready to move on without their parents. It is very noticeable that the children who have attended the parent and baby classes are much more advanced than those who start at a later age.
The pool also offers 3-year-old classes on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. These classes are an introduction to swimming for non-swimmers with emphasis on basic motor skills, face in the water, blowing bubbles, holding breath, going under water and jumping in the water.
The pool offers 4-5-year-old lessons for those unable to swim 10 yards on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Thursday at 3:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. These classes are designed to help students feel comfortable in the water safely. Children will learn how to enter and exit the pool safely, hold their breath, blow bubbles, and put their face in the water. They will learn how to float, glide and swim unassisted.
The pool also offers advanced or swimming three to five classes for those able to swim without assisted. These classes are Monday at 7 p.m., Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Call 764-2564 for more information.
