Island Falls Summerfest winners announced

  ISLAND FALLS, Maine — The town held its 2010 Sumerfest Events in early August and featured a variety of family-oriented events.
A Pet Show in memory of Jarrica Rose Emery was held Aug. 3. The judges were Cindy Rockwell, Connie Hollis and Robert Emery — Jarrica’s father. The Master of Ceremonies was Michele King of Island Falls. Trophies and rosettes were given out in a number of categories.
A recap of the pet show winners follows: Most Obedient Trophy, Diesel, puppy owned by Gabby Lewin; Best Dressed Trophy, Miley Lynn, owned by Vanessa Charette; Best Talent Trophy, Duke, owned by Tammy Webb; Best of Show, presented to Bodhi, owned by Amber Byron and Dave Babin.
Rossetts were given in the following categories: Smallest critter, Ali the cat, owned by Brett Williams; Youngest, Izi, 7 week old Jack Russell terrier owned by Meadow Nelson; Oldest, Daphine, 10-year-old cat, owned by Courtney MacDonald; quietist, Spunky the chicken, owned by Kelsey MacDonald; Loudest, Bodhi, a dog owned by Amber Byron & Dave Babin; Fluffiest, Tecca, owned by Maykayla LaCharite; Prettiest, Izi, owned by Meadow Nelson.
One night boarding at Fish N Stream Kennel, water bowls, a pillow, a photo album, cat toys and a Spider-Man doggy costume were other prizes. For future pet shows in Jarrica’s memory, the group would like to see donations towards Jarrica’s scholarship in her memory.
Games on the ball field were held with cash prizes given for first, second and third place. Winners in each category were:
• Softball Toss — 1, Robbie Rockwell; 2, Jenica Fraizer; and 3, Austin Bishop.
• Soccer Kick — 1, Joseph Frazier; 2, Isaiha Littleton; and 3, MJ Charette.
• Skillet Throw —1, JaCob Brooks; 2, MJ Charette; and 3, Griffin Shaw.
The Parade Theme this year was “Memories of Days Gone By” and cash prizes were awarded to the following: 1, K.V. Chamber; 2, Pheleps Family; and 3, Jenica Frazier and Desirae Dubois.
After parade highlights were a flower show contest by Caroline and Kim Skinner; a cakewalk; Magic of Conjuring Carrol and Son, sponsored by United Baptist Church of Island Falls; Jaws of Life Demo by I.F. Fire Dept.; This N That booths inside and outside; I.F. Rec Committee and Summerfest Committee sponsored barbecue to raise funds for future playground equipment; a water slide; a small bounce house; and an obstacle course bounce house were huge hit with kids.
A photo contest was held with three categories and people’s choice voting. Winners were: Old Homestead/Farm Houses, Rebecca Drew of Island Falls for a photo of Sewall House; Friends, Michelle McCordic of Island Falls for a cat photo; Sunsets, Ryder Stubbs, 11, of Sherman.
A childrens’ pageant was held, with Michele King of Island Falls serving as emcee. The director was Ruth Frazier. One category had two children¸ all others had one entry. All won trophies, sashes, tiaras, and beanie babies. Results were as follows: First place in Baby Wee One Category, Adria Lauren Goodall, daughter of Kim Goodall and Robert Rich, granddaughter of Lorrie and Bruce Scott, Brian Goodall, Deborah and Mike Parmigiani; Second place went to Jayden Kay White, daughter of Benjamin and Samantha White, granddaughter of Butch and Bessie Emery, Calvin and Lorrette White; Zackary Rutty, son of Sarah Chong and Robbie Rutty and grandson of Pat and Al Smith, Rob and Kim Rutty, Deanne and Mark Matthews took the homemade King Crown made by Frazier, along with his tie in the Wee One Category; Sunshine Kid Category was won by Jordyn Marie Bishop, daughter of Karla and Joey Bishop and granddaughter of Betty and Peter Bishop and Barry and Deborah Grant; Junior Miss category, Janine Moulton, daughter of Jeff and Elizabeth Moulton and granddaughter of Dennis and Rebecca Drew, Cherie Moulton and Terry Moulton, and great-granddaughter of Ava Joy; Pre-teen Miss, Georgina Lynn Altmannsberger, daughter of Connie and Richard Altmannsberger, her grandfather is Richard Altmannsberger Sr.
A bike raffle was held during the month and eight bikes were donated by local businesses, money raised will go towards future playground equipment for local playground. The Island Falls Free Wheeler Club donated a boys and girls 12-inch bike. The boys bike was won by Zachary Rutty, while the girls bike was won by Maureen Burns. D & D Paving donated a 16-inch boys bike, which was won by Eileen Bustard. Pat Hunt Law Office donated a 16-inch girls bike, won by Brian Gallant. Coffee News donated a 20-inch boys bike won by Debra Walton. The Island Falls Fire and Ambulance Department donated a 20-inch girls bike, won by Julia Murray.  Katahdin Trust Company donated a 26-inch boys bike won by Jackie Anderson. Katahdin Federal Credit Union donated a 26-inch girls bike won by Gail Lane.
