Savings Bank of Maine launched an exciting new era in its history earlier this summer after a $60 million infusion by investors drove the bank’s capital to over $120 million, making it one of the best capitalized banks in the Northeast. A new leadership team at the Maine bank, which is one of Maine’s oldest financial institutions with more than 175 years of history, has been busy enhancing the bank’s services to better serve customers.
“We have been listening closely to our customers and we’re implementing changes based on what they have told us,” said John Everets, chairman and chief executive officer, who together with Willard Soper, the bank’s president, has traveled the state visiting the bank’s offices and speaking with customers. “From eliminating the $1 transaction fees for debit card use to establishing community banking divisions that focus on the specific needs of each of our communities, we want our customers to know that we take their input very seriously and will build our banking services around their specific needs. Our customers can count on receiving incredible service.”
“We are extremely excited with all the changes and we invite all of our customers, past and present, to visit us and learn more about the new Savings Bank of Maine,” said Cindy Thibeau, vice president and branch manager of the Presque Isle office. “With today’s low interest rates, it’s a great time to refinance so we invite our customers to talk with us today.”
“Over the years, Savings Bank of Maine has done a wonderful job providing incredible customer service at the branch level,” said Carl Soderberg, a longtime bank customer and former vice chair of the board of First Citizens Bank in Presque Isle, which became part of the Savings Bank of Maine family in 2007. “I am very pleased with the bank’s new capital infusion and the commitment of the new leadership team to continue the bank’s strong community focus.”
Savings Bank of Maine was founded in Gardiner in 1834 and is the second oldest bank in the state with 32 offices around the state from York to Fort Kent and more than $883 million in assets.
