PRESQUE ISLE — Getting there from here just got cheaper for those flying to nine markets served by U.S. Airways.
Whether you want to extend your summer vacation or get a head start on fall travel plans, US Airways now is offering fare reductions to several popular destinations, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Chicago.
“The fares for a full one-third of the top markets out of Presque Isle have been significantly reduced. With fares as low as $129 one way to Los Angeles and San Francisco, you will be singing ‘California Here I Come,’” said Scott Wardwell, airport director, Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle.
Wardwell said going west just got a lot less expensive, with US Airways offering one-way fares of $129 to destinations like Las Vegas and Denver.
“If you want to see the famous Navy Pier or sample some of the famous Chicago deep-dish pizza, it’s now possible at a lower rate,” he said.
Fares are available immediately and can be booked at ww.usairways.com, by calling 800-428-4322 or through a travel agent.
“With fare reductions as high as 28 percent to some of the most popular destinations for County residents, it is time to take a second look at the convenience and savings of using our local airport,” commented the airport director.
Wardwell said the reduction is good news not just for local residents planning trips away but for tourists coming to the area as well.
“They offer a great opportunity not only for County residents but tourists to come to northern Maine to experience all the fall season has to offer. These fare reductions are a direct result of ongoing discussions with US Airways about pricing differences between Presque Isle and Bangor,” said Wardwell.
The reductions equal savings from $20 to as much as $55 one way, depending on the destination.
Reduced rates now apply to these nine markets: Buffalo, with a 17 percent reduction; Denver, with a 24 percent decrease;  Las Vegas, with a drop of 28 percent; and Los Angeles, with the largest decrease at 30 percent.
Also, Chicago, with a reduction of 25 percent; Phoenix, Ariz., with a 21 percent drop; Pittsburg, with a 19 percent decrease; Rochester, with a reduction of 18 percent; and San Francisco, with a drop of 27 percent.
