LIMESTONE — There will be two public hearings tonight at the Limestone Municipal Building; the first, scheduled for 6 p.m., will focus on questions, comments and concerns regarding the town’s possible purchase of land for the new estimated $5.2 million boarding home that is looking to be erected behind the health center and the historical society, off of the Access Highway. The land, owned by the Weatherhead family, is desirable for boarding home officials because of the increased visibility it would offer the facility.
During Aug. 4 meeting of the Limestone Selectpeople, the Weatherheads had given the town two options for purchasing the land: option 1 is for a 16.6-acre lot at $6,500 per acre for a total of $107,900 and option 2 is for a 10-acre lot at $7,500 for a total of $75,000.
Town Manager Donna Bernier has informed members of the budget committee on Aug. 12 that the option for purchasing the land in question is now 15 acres priced at $6,000 per acre for a total cost of $90,000.
According to the public hearing announcement, “the purpose of the Public Hearing is in regard to the Town purchasing the land for the new Boarding Home Facility that is to be built in Limestone on Access Highway.”
The second public hearing is regarding the proposed winter closure of the Burgoine Road.
All town residents are encouraged to attend the meeting and make their voices heard.
