PRESQUE ISLE — Police are investigating a rash of car burglaries that occurred over the last week.
The Presque Isle Police Department began receiving calls from car owners Aug. 11 reporting various items had been taken from their vehicles. In most cases, cash and small items were taken.

Incidents were reported at several locations throughout the city between Aug. 11-17, including: Academy, Dobson, Skyway, Wilson, Park and Barton streets; Downing Place; Morningside Road; and Longview Drive.
At least one person witnessed someone getting into their vehicle and provided police with a description of a young male, possibly in their teens or early 20s.
Following a report of another burglary during the early morning hours of Aug. 17 in the Barton Street area, police located several juvenile boys on the State Street bridge, including one known to have a probation curfew. He was transported to the PIPD where he was discovered to have several items in his possession that he reportedly “found.” Police seized the items pending any further burglaries.
In each case, car owners reported their vehicles were not locked when the incidents took place.
Police have not charged anyone in connection with the burglaries. Anyone who believes they may be a victim of such a crime or has information about the burglaries is asked to contact the PIPD at 764-4476.
Officers Rob Thibeault and Peter Johnson are continuing to investigate.
“We urge owners to lock their vehicles to deter such criminal activity. Removing valuables or storing them where they are not visible will also help deter burglars,” said Sgt. Joey Seeley, PIPD.
