Long-time NMCC golf coach now at UMPI
PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle has announced that Daniel Hotham has been hired as its new head golf coach to replace Ryan Guerrette, who held the position the last two years.
Hotham recently retired from Northern Maine Community College, where in addition to his work as the institution’s longest-serving faculty member, served for more than 20 years as the first head coach of the varsity golf team.
During his time as golf coach at NMCC, the Falcons were members of the Maine Small College Conference, which included community colleges from around the state and the University of Maine at Augusta. During his 22 years of coaching at NMCC, the Falcons won the conference title three times.
Hotham, who has a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine at Machias, and a master’s degree from Antioch New England Graduate School, has been playing golf since he was a teenager. He took time off from the sport during college, but it was not long before he felt the itch to get back on the links, and he’s been playing ever since. Currently, he stays heavily involved in golf, playing anywhere from 20 to 25 tournaments every summer. He has won the Spudland Open twice, the McCain Foods Open and several other local events.
Hotham said he is looking forward to stepping in as UMPI’s new coach
“I enjoy sharing my passion for the game with young people because it is a game they can play for the rest of their lives,” he said.
