Head coach Brian Reynolds has been working the Houlton Knights hard as he prepares them for the 2010 football season.
Reynolds is evaluating a strong group of backs this year, and has been impressed with the progress along the line.
The Knights, 2009 Aroostook Football League champions, hope to find similar success with many returning veterans.
“Our line is big this year, averaging over 260 pounds across the front,” said Reynolds.
The Knights’ season opens Saturday, Aug. 28 in Caribou at Sincock Field, with the annual Jamboree.
“It’s a chance to fine tune our attack without giving away too much strategy,” Reynolds said.
The Knights will play eight games, hosting four in Houlton on Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and 16, and Nov. 6.
The Knights hope to make the playoffs and repeat the remarkable achievements of last year.
Junior Knights
The junior high Knights football team has a large group practicing twice a week preparing for their upcoming season.
They get a chance to “show their stuff” on Sept. 11 in Presque Isle at the annual four-team Jamboree. Coach Hank Milligan has a big and quick group. The junior Knights season begins on Sept. 18 in Madawaska.
Peewee Knights
The peewee Knights, because of the rising interest in football in Houlton, are sponsoring two teams this year. Coaches Brian Forest and Bill Creigh are looking forward to the upcoming season. The peewee Jamboree will be held on Sept. 11 in Presque Isle.
