The field was small in The County Open, but the annual fund-raiser for the Health Services Foundation was a success due to the generosity of area sponsors.
Both VaJoWa and Houlton golf courses were and are in great shape although the trees and bunkers attracted many golf balls. (I can still hear Dan Tracy whacking the forest for an 11 at VaJoWa, but he played very well after that, and Tony Marino spent more time in the sand than Peter O’Toole in “Lawrence of Arabia.”)
Marty Bouchard, the fourth member of our foursome at VaJoWa, hit his usual big drives, but as Warner Von Braun, the developer of jet bombs for Germany in WWII answering his critics about jet bombing said, “We aim for the stars, but occasionally we hit London.” Marty occasionally hit the fairway.
Playing in Houlton, I enjoyed watching Sean Dolomont play extremely well. He will be a factor in his division in this week’s club championship, which will be played Saturday and Sunday. Jerry York will have his hands full defending his title, but I warn you Class A players, he is playing very well, as he won The County Open.
County Open results are as follows:
